Toddler Interpreter announced today that their Baby Sign Language book Toddler Interpreter, 2009 Edition, will feature at Book Expo America, 29-31 May 2009, NYC in the New Title Showcase.

Toddler Interpreter is a comprehensive “how to” guide for parents and comes with an optional set of Baby Sign Language posters. Baby Sign Language is used as a communication tool for babies and toddlers before they can speak. Babies know what they want from a very early age but lack the ability to express their needs and wants until their vocal chords become developed enough to speak. In Baby Sign Language, basic gestures are used to communicate with pre-verbal babies. These basic gestures are taught to the baby so that they have a method of conveying their needs and wants. Providing a communication tool to the pre-verbal baby reduces their frustration and increases their confidence as they feel as though they have some control over their needs and their environment.

Baby sign language enhances bonding between parents and baby. Quality time is spent with the baby when teaching Baby Sign Language. The largest impact on the relationship is the ability to have two way communications. By providing Baby Sign Language as a communication tool as early as 6 months of age, the baby and parent are connected through communication and are able to bond more closely together.

Studies have been conducted that demonstrate an increased vocabulary and literary skills in babies that have been taught Baby Sign Language compared to those who were not. Toddler Interpreter Baby Sign Language has been developed specifically for hearing children. It incorporates natural gestures and some modified traditional signs. All signs have been specifically chosen as gestures that are appropriate for the target age group of 6 months to 30 months of age. All Toddler Interpreter Baby Sign Language gestures describe an action or meaning of a word and therefore can be understood without any knowledge of traditional sign language.

Toddler Interpreter Baby Sign Language has been developed into 5 easy stages of learning by teaching the most basic and most relevant baby signs first. The Toddler Interpreter Baby Sign Language signs become increasingly more difficult as progress is made onto the next of the five stages. Toddler Interpreter, A Parent’s Guide to Baby Sign Language for Hearing Babies and Toddlers, 2009 Edition is available in some major bookstores and online from http://www.toddlerinterpreter.com.
